Greetings to anyone who still checks in with the blog. You are probably wondering, "What happened to the blog? She didn't watch them *all* yet, did she? Prakash Raj is still making films, so what's going on?"
Spoiler Alert: The blog is back! |
All good questions! The last post was in May 2012, and then several things happened that altered my pop culture consumption and blogging:
1. took my usual little hiatus from watching Indian films to obsess about the Olympics.
2. PSY/Gangnam Style got big in late summer 2012, and I thought "Oh yeah, lots of other people who watch Indian films are always raving about Korean dramas, I should check one out." So I searched on Hulu and found "Boys Over Flowers" and... fell down a giant rabbit hole of K-dramas and K-Pop and related blogs, tumblrs, podcasts, youtube channels, concerts and conventions.
I'm pretty sure that the years of watching Indian film songs primed me
to completely love this ridiculous music video.
3. Inspired in part by crazy K-pop hairstyles, some friends and I decided to devote 2013 to trying out a new hair style every month, and blogging about the results. For 2013, changingthelocks.com filled the "blog about something once a month" spot in my life. I switched out screencaps of Prakash Raj yelling "rrreeeeyyy!!" for awkward selfies from weird angles.
4. The first half of 2014 was crazy at work, and I'm finally catching up.
As much as I've enjoyed my other pop culture and blogging obsessions, I've tried to watch a few Indian films here and there and kept up with the latest PR news via his twitter feed and other stuff. As 2015 rolled around, I realized that when I started the project back in 2010, I was sure I'd be finished with watching all of the films by now. Which got me thinking about getting back to the blog.
Earlier this week, I saw the sad news of the sudden passing of MS Narayana, who is up there in pantheon of awesome character actors in Telugu films.
I probably haven't watched a film that he's in for more than a year, but I still felt this sense of loss, and affection and respect for his work, no doubt from watching many of the films I've talked about on this blog.
Spurred by this, I've made a New Year's Resolution for 2015: Each month I'm going to watch and blog about at least one of the films remaining on my "to watch" list. That's right:
My Year of Prakash Raj has returned to finish the project!
Stay tuned for a catch up post for things I watched in the 2nd half of 2012-2014, and then a monthly update after that.
Yay! Welcome Back. Have I got a list for you.
